Here are some of our favorites........
We are now a designated dealer for Dreher Oars, which are produced by:
Durham Boat Company, Inc.
220 Newmarket Road
Durham, NH 03284
Walter Baron's shop is located at 170 Old Chequessett Neck Road in Wellfleet, MA. Walter has been building boats for 30 years and is among the
very finest craftsmen we know. We are pleased to have him as our in-house builder of Ruud van Veelen's Puuvenepiste designs. While many other builds are to his credit, he is best known for his Lumberyard Skiff design, which is now represented on all continents (with the exception of Antarctica!)and several outstanding variations of the Swampscott Dory. He also offers an extensive list of plans.
Ruud van Veelen's forte' is a unique line of lapstrake competition and recreational rowing craft based on traditional Finnish designs. Best known are his Churchboats, 14-oars+cox competition racers. Equally so are the Savo 575 and 650 racing singles and the Savo 650 D racing double. All of these are routine winners in Finland's annual Sulkava rowing race (averages 5,000 entries!). We are pleased to offer the 575 and 650s as either custom builds or as kits. We are equally appreciative of offering his superb Poseidon Sliding Seat System, which is proving to be an excellent alternative choice for outfitting the sliding seat to a variety of excellent designs.
Shaw and Tenney Oar and Paddle Company located in Orono, ME, Shaw and Tenney was established in 1858. They are the second oldest manufacturer of marine products in the United States. Quality of their products from the beginning to now can only be described as exceptional. Under the leadership to current owner Steven P. Holt, their offering has been expanded to include boathooks, masts, spars, flagpoles, and a full complement of marine hardware. They also offer a variety of custom design and engraving services. We are pleased that they recommend and carry our Oarsman Marine Tallow for the seasoning of oar and gaff jaw leathers and the lubrication of rowing hardware. Their Shaw and Tenney Spoons are our "oars of choice" for many of the installations of our Poseidon Sliding Seat System. Their oars are our personal "benchmark standard" when outfitting rowing craft.
Adirondack Guide-Boat located in North Ferrisberg, VT, Adirondack Guide-Boat was founded by Steve Kaulback in 1979.
He recognized the signature qualities of the traditional guide-boat and was convinced it had a viable place in modern recreational rowing. He was right! While maintaining the versatility of the originals, he evolved a design that many thousands have found to their liking over the past 37 years. Now owned by Justin and Ian Martin, the company continues to offer top-of-the line quality and performance in their Kevlar Adirondack Guide-Boat 15, Vermont Fishing Dory, Vermont Packboat and Vermont Solo Packboat. Included in their products are a variety of carefully chose accessories, including oars and hardware. Kits are also available for their venerable Adirondack Woodstrip Guide-Boat. I've had the privilege of rowing traditionally constructed guide-boats and can
state that these "modern" craft are every bit equal to their wooden forbearers
Chase Small Craft - Clint Chase has a strong background in designing and building tradition-based small craft. His offerings include well selected kits for a number of sailing and rowing designs. We are pleased that he offers a custom version of our Poseidon Sliding Seat System for his excellent Drake 17, Drake 19 and Drake Race Boat designs. He's an outstanding oarsman and is willing and able to advise you on all aspects of recreational rowing. His newest design, the 10-foot Compass Skiff will be available in July of 2016. This is one of a very few small outboard craft worthy of consideration so keep track of his website if this interests you.
R & W Rope located in New Bedford, MA, R & W Rope is a family owned business specializing in (I do not exaggerate) virtually all types
of marine and other purpose-made line and rope in synthetic and natural materials. They have been invaluable to us over the years in resolving the
frustrations of customers who have (almost literally) gotten themselves "tied up in knots" attempting to source the types of cordage that really met
their needs. Most found the solutions they needed at R & W. They also offer an array of other products (including marine hardware and fittings) of interest to traditional boaters. Save yourself time and confusion: Go to them first! We always do.
State of the art standup custom wooden paddleboards. They are located in Eliot, ME. Kyle Schaeffer's and Kent Scovill's paddleboards are superbly designed and exquisitely crafted. Their designs are on a short list of the truly best.
